About

Holy Orders is the sacrament by which bishops, priests and deacons are ordained and receive the power and grace to perform their sacred duties. The sacred rite by which orders are conferred is called ordination. The apostles were ordained by Jesus at the Last Supper so that others could share in his priesthood.

Holy Orders, which was instituted by Christ himself, is administered by the laying on of hands by the Bishop, through which the priest is given the power to serve the Church through his preaching, teaching and celebration of the Sacraments.

God has a purpose for your life, and it’s bigger than you think. Whether you’re discerning the priesthood, religious life, diaconate, or another vocation of His calling, your “yes” can change the world.

Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood

Heavenly Father, You have created us for a definite purpose. Grant us the grace to know the path planned for each of us in this life, and to respond with a generous YES. Make my parish, my home, and my heart fruitful ground for Your gift of vocations to the priesthood of Jesus Christ. May our young men respond to Your call with courage and zeal. Stir among them a desire and the strength to be good and holy priests. We make our prayer to You, Father, in the Holy Spirit, through Christ, Our Lord, Amen

“For this reason, I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God that you have through the imposition of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:6
